"We are thrilled to announce the recipient of the inaugural Mark Hornby Memorial Scholarship, celebrating the enduring legacy of longtime musician and educator Mark Hornby. With over 40 years of dedication to building Alberta’s music community, Mark was a passionate guitarist, vocalist, and leader in numerous bands across various genres. He was also a distinguished alumnus of the University of Calgary, where he earned both a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education, and taught in schools for over 30 years. This scholarship honors Mark’s profound love for music and education by supporting a young emerging jazz artist within Calgary’s post-secondary educational community.

 

After a rigorous selection process, we are delighted to award the $1000 scholarship, generously sponsored by the Hornby family, to Anjienette Corpuz. This talented individual exemplifies the spirit of jazz and the commitment to musical excellence that Mark cherished."
